Dulles with SF to CES

Flying from Dulles
Just after New Year
A big wreath
Keeps a tenuous hold on the wall
And the old year
Which will be gone when I return.

A pretty blond with anime eyes
Gets on the B train
I get on the A
And travel the Kubrician tunnels

Down slidewalks that always remind me of Heinlein
Either you know why or you don’t
And down corridors lined with
Beautiful space art.

I think those destinations
Are on the B train too.

Just about the time
I decided to stop being bothered
By the TSA
They stopped being bothersome
And my voyage goes like clockwork.

So here I am at my gate
(an hour early)
Ready to jet through the sky
To a place that promises me
The future present,
Both lesser and greater
Than my sci-fi dreams

But just as fleeting
As we step into the amazing
World of tomorrow
and leave today’s behind.
