Kojo Nnamdi: Soups for All Seasons
Wednesday, Feb 23, 2011 at 1:06 p.m.
UPDATE: I got on the show as the first caller. Hey, for me it was a big deal. I asked if the pros had any suggestions for alternatives to making stock from scratch, since I’m making a gallon of soup every week…and they knocked the idea that any base could compete with fresh stock. Haunt the butcher for bones, they said. I also asked about shipping soup, which threw Kojo for a minute, but besides sending it FedEx, they didn’t have much to say…well, so much for my two minutes of soup fame…
One of the topics on today’s Kojo Nnamdi show is going to be soups, and not just winter soups, but ones that will take you into the spring and beyond. If you miss it live, they’ll post the podcast later, but either fresh or reheated, I’m sure it will be a tasty soupçon of programming.
From the show’s page: Mmm Mmm Good. We’re sharing secrets for great soup and stews. Winter weather can bring out the soup lover in everyone. But the arrival of spring doesn’t mean soup is passe. Experts share their secrets for great soup and stews. Guests: Ris Lacoste,Owner and chef, Ris restaurant DC and Lorraine Wallace Author of Mr. Sunday’s Soups
My comment to the show page: Kojo, I’m glad you’re doing a soup show, since this is my year of soup. Around New Year’s Day I had the crazy idea to make a gallon of soup every Sunday and share it with friends and co-workers as well as photographing and blogging the results.
I’m on soup #8 and it’s going well so far…#7 Lobster Bob and the Tails Go Bisque-O! was an especially big hit.
I’ve been having a great time cooking, photographing, blogging, making up labels, and sharing soups.
I’m posting the blogs on my personal blog, Being Ernest, but the easiest way to find it is by going to: www.yearofsoup.net
Here’s hoping you soup bowl is always full!
