Here’s a song I wrote that’s heavily influenced by John Prine which I’m planning on singing at tomorrow’s Tuesday Night Open Mic at Hard Times Cafe.<\/p>\n

G<\/u><\/strong>\u00a0I used to want to be a spaceman
\ngo on up there in a\u00a0C<\/u><\/strong>\u00a0tin can
\nto explore the solar\u00a0G<\/u><\/strong>\u00a0system
\nand maybe go to\u00a0D<\/u><\/strong>\u00a0mars<\/p>\n

Now I just want to\u00a0G<\/u><\/strong>\u00a0stay here
\nwith my feet on solid\u00a0C<\/u><\/strong>\u00a0ground dear
\nsomeplace I know that\u00a0G<\/u><\/strong>\u00a0you’re near
\nlike\u00a0D<\/u><\/strong>\u00a0maybe in my\u00a0G<\/u><\/strong>\u00a0arms<\/p>\n

and I wanted to be someone
\nthat people could look up to
\nas I whizzed around in orbit
\nat 10 thousand miles an hour<\/p>\n<\/td>\n

But now I think that I’d be happy
\neven if it’s kind of sappy
\njust to be the fella
\nthat brings you lots of flowers<\/p>\n

So you can take some other rascal
\nand put him in a capsule
\nand send him on a voyage
\noff to see the stars<\/p>\n

But if I’m being factual
\nand not especially tactful
\nYou’d have to be plumb crazy
\nto want to go that far<\/p>\n

G<\/u><\/strong> I used to want to be a spaceman…<\/p>\n

Cause now I see things clearly
\nI find I feel sincerely
\nThat all really want now
\nis a space inside your heart.<\/p>\n

and I wanted to be someone<\/del>
\nthat people would look up to<\/del>
\nand not just that they’d look through<\/del>
\nlike a dirty windowpane<\/del><\/p>\n

I’d like to be your good friend
\non which you know can depend
\nto be there when you need me
\nand never go insane<\/p>\n

(obviously, I’m still working on both the song and the never going insane part)<\/p>\n
