Much as I like both, I&#8217;m not a tremendous fan of turkey soup, turkey tetrazzini, or turkey chowder. I like turkey pot pies pretty well, but I&#8217;m not up for playing with the crust just so my wife can point out all the calories I&#8217;ve stuffed into each one.<\/p>\n<p>So I went surfing for ideas on the web, and found a turkey soup with lime and chile\u00a0 over at the NYTimes, which they&#8217;d just popped up for the holiday. Which puts me in mind of two things that might work out: either a Turkey broth version of Tom Yum Gum, or a Turkey Tortilla Soup.<\/p>\n<p>Browsing around for recipies to steal ideas from I came across the ultimate stock of Turkey Soup ideas at the National Turkey Federation&#8217;s website: eatturkey.com.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.eatturkey.com\/foodsrv\/recipes\/soups.html\">Turkey Soup Recipes &#8211; National Turkey Foundation Website<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Suddenly the pot of broth I&#8217;ve got boiling away downstairs doesn&#8217;t seem so ominous.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Turkey Soup with Black Beans and Tortillas<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><\/strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.e357.net\/beingernest\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/IMAG2163.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-thumbnail wp-image-2859\" title=\"IMAG2163\" src=\"http:\/\/www.e357.net\/beingernest\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/IMAG2163-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a>8 cups turkey stock<\/li>\n<li>2 15 oz cans Black Beans<\/li>\n<li>1 14.5 oz can diced tomatoes<\/li>\n<li>4 oz can diced jalapenos<\/li>\n<li>1 cup sweet corn<\/li>\n<li>1 med onion, diced and sauted<\/li>\n<li>3 large clove garlic diced and sauted<\/li>\n<li>1 cup salsa verde (medium hot)<\/li>\n<li>1 tbs chili<\/li>\n<li>1 tbs cumin<\/li>\n<li>2 tbs corn flour (I put 2 tbs grits trhough a coffee grinder and called it flour)<\/li>\n<li>1 tbs salt<\/li>\n<li>1\/2 cup chopped cilantro<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.e357.net\/beingernest\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/IMAG2197.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-2855 alignleft\" title=\"IMAG2197\" src=\"http:\/\/www.e357.net\/beingernest\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/IMAG2197-300x179.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"179\" srcset=\"https:\/\/e357.net\/beingernest\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/IMAG2197-300x179.jpg 300w, https:\/\/e357.net\/beingernest\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/IMAG2197-1024x612.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/strong>Basically, I threw all the ingredients except the cilantro together willy-nilly and stood back for 40 minutes while it did a slow simmer. Then I added the cilantro and let it simmer for another 10 minutes before turning off the heat to let it come tog<strong><\/strong>ether for about an hour.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tortilla Strips<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Corn Tortillas (one per customer)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>I tried cooking the tortillas up in olive oil in a frying pan, but never got the results I wanted.
